Re: 7/1, Bunker Buster Battle Damage Assessment

The bunkers do not always go down with a single hit. I have personally F6-viewed one (don't recall JDAM, LGB, what it was...) go straight in, impact the bunker, and then watched the smoke particles clear and leave it looking as if nothing had happened. I think especially the 500 lb munitions are inc...

Re: after Snowfox

In the end, NTTR may be the only landlocked map we ever see in DCS. Syria, Marianas, Falklands/South Atlantic...all have some to a LOT of the map in a non-solid state. I don't know if I really care which map we use. PG is the newest, but lately we've used it the most, so I'm neither averse to settin...

Re: DCS Spotting and Somewhat of Fix?

Keep in mind a 172 is TINY compared to the jets in DCS. However, unless it's really dark or overcast, you also get glints off real planes which make them show and DCS is 100% matte finish when it comes to that. There is also the parallax effect and movement against the background you get in real lif...

Re: A couple mods to consider

The AMRAAM had not yet entered service when Desert Storm happened. It was rushed and saw "active carry" missions in the no-fly zones afterwards, but I think the first combat kill was over Bosnia? The latest versions of the Sparrow work fine enough, it was the need to use STT, prosecute a single targ...

Re: Comms Discipline

That might help with some planes, but I noticed at the start he says "full fidelity radios"...so that means the F-15, Su-25T, Su-27, and MiG-29 can't use them.

So we'd need to keep TS3 for that, perhaps on a separate PTT key.

Re: Interest in Coordinated Strike Packages on Snowfox?

Ideally we'd have the coords for every target that isn't mobile. The card above for example shows the same ones for Alpha, bravo, and charlie. Of course that's not the actual case, unless those are the coords for the WP instead. Given how many weapons are now GPS guided, it's become essential. Sure ...

Re: A couple mods to consider

I think due to map sizes they strangled the range of all the missiles. The Russian missiles I thought were about right and the western ones too short. Instead of increasing the Western ones, they shortened the Russians' instead. On the one hand, as long as the relative ranges are close, it's much be...

Re: Pulled the trigger.

The pics imply Marianas will be present day based on the civilian vehicles and building designs (although granted there are a lot of old buildings there that date from pre-WWII anyway). However, generally speaking it's easier to run WWII birds off a modern map than modern jets off a WWII one due to ...

Re: Comms Discipline

I'm referring to the fact that you can have people over the target and en route to the target and taking off and just joining all at the same time. Naturally the comms from each of them are going to be different and overlapping. Does it mean the latest to join have to just STFU and do serious comms ...

Re: Pulled the trigger.

Marianas is the most realistic place to put carrier vs carrier. The Kuz wouldn't be in the PG, the US carriers shouldn't be in Black Sea, and Falklands and Syria likely would need to have carriers right offshore again like PG. It also dual serves WWII and modern day like no other map but Caucasus, b...

Re: Comms Discipline

There is an unspoken assumption here that I've not seen actually take place yet. That is simply that all pilots are on the server and taking off at the same time (as well as possibly being in close proximity, carrier to airfield-wise). When people join over the course of an hour or more, that is of ...

Re: Pulled the trigger.

Il-2 46 had crappy MGs, only cannons ever worked well. Il-2 BoX has good MGs, the cannons hit harder but you CAN get a lot of kills with MG alone if your aim is good. You need to hit engines and cockpits and not just wings or tail, though. I just don't have the time to learn more planes. The terrain...

Re: Any Asimov fans here?

I haven't watched See yet, but I watched For All Mankind. It was well done, what I expected from Ron Moore.

I have 2 shelves of Asimov's books, including all the Foundation and Robot series. Plus a ton of single novels and story collections. I love his writing and AC Clarke's about the same.

Re: DCS WWII

Given that since the last couple of patches back Il-2 coop seems to have been broken, it's a moot point for MP.

Still works well in SP of course.

Re: Important ED Forums page: Upcoming Update Announcements

Yes, apparently some major backlash has occurred over the last few "bad" OB updates, and as a result ED has resolved to have fewer updates and test them more with more in each one. I can't say that's a bad idea. Not when the OB became the de facto standard due to so many early access products being ...

Re: DCS WWII

The experience of flying the P-51D in DCS turned me off. It was interesting to fly in it, but not to fight in it. The whole separation of RPM and manifold pressure...that might be realistic, but I don't find it intuitive. I have so little time to fly that unlearning literal decades of "throttle up =...

Yes, having it for the Harrier and Viggen would be good, too.
