it does look cool, but Killzone 2 is going to be on the PS3, which is very similar in concept, and i'd imagine will look kinda similar as well. Personally, i'm going to wait for the PS3 - imo the selection of games that sony offer is much more varied than the 360; if i bought one of those it would pretty much be to just play Halo, whereas the PS3 has MGS, Killzone, all the EA titles that the 360 has, the new Warhawk (yay) etc etc...what really pisses me off is that the new Zelda game will likely be Wii only, and i therefore won't get to play it (again, another one of those 'console to play one game' situations)

Well, I saved up $$ all year for a PS3, and then found out it's gonna cost $600+ for the core system, and that the games were going to sell for $75-$100 each. How absurd. The game prices are a big downer for me, so I am now seriously considering getting the X360. The X360 has been out for a year now, and there are some decent games for it.

I have been a die hard PS1 and PS2 fan for the last 8+ years, but I just can't fathom the cost of the PS3 and the games. It's not like I can't afford it, I buy at least 12+ PC games a year and upgrade the hardware every 2-3 years. Maybe I'll pickup a PS3 in a few years, I'm sure it will come down in price by then. *shrug*

I think it's primarily down to the new BLurray DVD format. If you look at the new DVD players coming out, the Blueray ones are more expensive than the HD DVD ones, so i can only surmise that the same is true of consoles that utilise the technology

Actually there is a shortage of the blue ray lasers and such. Basicly like standard sony, they well not license the technology out, same as there bata, mini disc's, memory stick and da da da. Basicly sony just well not learn that making a nice new technology is great, but making it expensive because you are the only suppler hurts you. and this is a classic case, this Blue Ray well probable end up like Bata, it may even be a better format but in the end it well not live unless sony well let other company's make the technology.

Well, I have been pricing the X360 on Ebay ($400 - $600 with some games), and I just don't think I can trust buying an X360 from there. Yea, I would probably save from $50 to $100, but is that worth any problems the system might have? It's not likely to have any warranty on it, so now I'm looking at getting a "new" system with a full (extended) warranty. I'll probably end up getting the $500 X360 Premium Gamma system, comes with 2 Wireless controllers, a recharger cable, HD/AV cables, and a Universal Media Remote. *shrug* I'd say in about another 2-4 weeks I'll pick one up.

May I recommend waiting for the ps3 to hit. I believe its not far now (if I am wrong ignore me). when it hits don't be surprised to see Microsoft drop there x box price just to spite sony and entice more to go the x box way.

Not sure if MS will do that - it's already $100 cheaper.

But, I would agree with waiting til PS3 releases -- MS may release a bundle edition that is a better deal than currently available ...

MS is not actually making any cash over the x-box as it stands. Remember its M$ here, they are big into undercutting the competition to get ahead. Once its the standard, then they can charge what they want and you relay don't get to much of a choice. Windows for example, if you want to play PC games you parity much have to run windows. there are a select few games migrated to mac and Linux, but few it the key word there. So to see a price drop or some other way of undercutting the PS3 is to be expected, its in there nature. but hey, I am always voting for the under dog. I want to see the ps3 do well, and whoop the x-box, especially sicne I so far have perferd the ps games over x box games in general. PS series always seamed to be more geared towards adults and the xbox more kids. I know I know there are games on both for all ages, but PS just seam to have more adult games, and better ones.

afraid not. last few years have not been good to sony. they really have taken a beating. Hell this year there is a MASS battery recall of sony battery's, Dell, and apple did it first then others and well sony themselves finely just recalled all batteries. but seeing as sony supples many batteries to many laptop company's, well ya thats a lot of cash to pay out for replacements. The PS3 being dam dam late to market, don't help, and da da da. Its like IBM years ago, for a few years there IBM could not do a dam thing right. And seems like sony has the same issue these days. I have heard that sony may even have people looking to buy them, not sure how good or bad hat is.

Just because they're having a bad time and seem to have lost their way doesn't make them the underdog.

They are the Empire that stumbled and is looking to get their primacy back unchallenged, not the young up-and-comer eager to get there for the first time.
They were EXPECTED to be the best, EXPECTED to have no issues, EXPECTED to dominate every field.
When you're at the top, there's nowhere to go but down, but standing a few feet from the summit while you regain your footing doesn't put you behind the guy in the foothills just starting his ascent.

well the reason I would say they are a underdog is that x box been out for lose to a year while the ps3 is not out yet. So unless it offerers a lot over the x box, it may not tdo as well as hoped. they are basiclay having to break into the xbox 360 market shares. I am rooting for them even but they have to fight.

Moose,
I throroughly enjoyed Gotham Racing. PDZ was fun, but not awesome. I hear GOW has excellent coop mp (2-player). I should have it soon, we should try it out when you get it. Let me know if you want to race some PGR when you get going.
