War Thunder

Post by Hammer » 07 Aug 2013, 18:47

anyone looked at this?

free to play like some MMO's nowadays (i.e. MWO) WW2 sim. just aircraft right now, but that portion seems to be pretty well done.

3 levels of realism. arcade is not even that easy, historical battles seems to be a really good compromise, and (if you are reading this Buff) even full real.

they have some solo play, pvp, coop, etc.

ha! I did not even know you could do third person until last night when I played a review and watched my failed mission. :)

my guess is in full real you cannot do third person. not sure about historical battles. but you always start in the cockpit for sure.

I flew a bit of this the other night and I have to say, it's pretty damn fun! I got my ass handed to me every mission (Total Noob), but the game is surprisingly well done. So far I have two planes, a P26 Peashooter (starting plane) and a F2A-1 Buffalo (mission reward). The damage modeling is nice, graphics are excellent, and when playing certain missions, somewhat realistic flight models. For what it's worth, the game uses a fly by KB and mouse setup and it does work out nicely. For camera options, you can change from 3rd person, cockpit view, to HUD only view. The only down side so far is waiting to enter a mission, sometimes up to 5 minutes or more. When you die in a mission, you jump around in spectator mode and watch other players fight. Pretty cool. Missions I was involved in lasted anywhere from 10-30 minutes. I did get a CTD while flying around in Practice mode after taking off from a Carrier.

If you haven't tried this yet, go check it out, you may be pleasantly surprised.

They "reward" you by sticking you in a Brewster Buffalo F2A-1? Damn I thought we just did that to Marines and the Finn's, maybe a swift kick to the package would be better, as it cant be any worse! lol

This summer has been so busy I cant see straight. Between being out of town, work, life outside of work and prepping for the KCSB comp in Sept, I barely have time to sleep

Buff,
typical free to play you have to work your way up by buying things with the points you earn or points you buy with cash. better stuff is available. when you get a chance give it a try. would be interested in your feedback if you can muster through the initial parts.
