What the 352nd and I have been working on

Post by Buffalo Six » 13 Mar 2009, 13:18

Here are some screen shots of the WIP 1 to 1 scale 352nd 1940 Cross Channel Map.

for reference....this is the CCM 1940 map with the stock IL2 Normandy map shown....

and here is Cannon UK's BoB map (its at some wonky almost 2/3 scale) and the IL2 map..........

Ok so now you can get a feel for the size of what we are working on.....
here are some WIP screenies for various airfields and stuff. Many of the older shots are just the airbase on the old texture map, so they look just plunked down... Currently the overall texture map is in place, with some elements being added like farm fields etc...

Any 3d detail stuff you see in these pics are just added for the pictures, so things like people and ammo boxes all over the place are not hard coded into the map, just the texture plates for the airfields and the buildings are hard coded to ease the fame hits. With my Nivida 260's (even just runing one) I'm pegged at 60 frames for the most part, low so far I saw was 39 frames at Croydon.

So on to the IL2 Porn................

At first you were bending my arm, now you just ripped my arm off and beat me with it. That is some fantastic work there Buff, kudos to you and the squadron.

Well damn, Oleg should have hired your group Buff to work on "Storm of War"!

well all I am doing is currently testing and building missions for the map project. I am doing 2 side projects that when done will begin a new phase in that we will be building little pieces of stuff. What I mean is other than bases and some important items there is nothing ther but trees and roads. We will them start building little things like villages, farms, etc. and my favorite....targets, that may or may not be hard coded into the map but will allow us to find like a set of villages, and using note pad insert them anywhere on the map we need to.

That and they want to start to teach me how to add textures to 3d models we have so far (we have a really talented guy who is doing a hell of a lot of 3d stuff for us......hell he cranked out an entire F4U-4 in about 4 days....if only we could figure out hot to get THAT in the game...the 3d object enabler is pretty wonky, and takes a while to figure out....and the instructions are in Russian IIRC) so if anyone is wondering where I am.....now you know.

You guys are going to love this map....hell it almost smells like England
