How I increased my Framerates by 20+ FPS

Post by Softball » 19 Dec 2006, 10:16

I decided to play a little NWN2 last night, and for whatever reason I was getting horrible framerates (5-10 FPS). When I first installed the game I would usually get 15-25 FPS, and seeing this 5-10 FPS last night had me scratching my head in disbelief. I did a google search on some NWN2 tweaks and I found some good info.

I changed a couple of options in my game setup and I have increased my framerates to 25-40 FPS steadily. NWN2 is SO much better to play at 25-40 FPS, a night and day difference. :)

The options I changed are as follows:

Point Light Shadows / OFF
Object Fade / OFF
View Distance / 150

So, if you are getting less than stellar framerates with NWN2, give these a try and see if it improves your FPS. I'm going to mess around with my game settings some more, and see what's the max I can push the settings to before my game bogs back down.

Good luck.

the big thing i did was lower the resolution ... it looked like ass when I lowered the texture quality. I'm running it at "720p" with most sliders mid-high.

I'll try those suggestions later and see if I can eke some better quality out of it. I'd love to get the resolution higher.

I'm running at 1680x1050, no FSAA, High Res textures.

I average from 25-45 FPS now.

i turned off the water stuff (reflections and dynamic water or something like that) and it helped. how did reducing the view distance to 150 affect you?

Laughing at the title of this thread... Reminds of Viagra commercials for some reason.
