And yet she was purring like a kitten... minus some understandable problems with the elevators...

You can bump up that water to level 4 if you have a good video card.

What other goodies am I missing?

Ah yes, the water looks much nicer now!

You should download and install IL-2 Manager. It allows you to tweak the graphics settings a lot more.

that was actually a fuel tank fire; i shut down the engine and fired the extinguishers to no avail; brought the engine back up so it wouldn't fly like a pig.. and ya i was running the engine at about 109% so it was probably a little hot anyway... i'm bad about that...

im probably going to use DirectX and lose the water when I play tonight... game keeps crashing on me with opengl error #13's in conjunction with TDR errors (your video driver failed but was able to recover blah blah blah...) .... look like it's a not so uncommon issue with Vista... *sigh*

I'm not having problems with directx games, so looks like it's limited to the fabulous opengl support in vista (graciously provided by nvidia in its not so wonderful state)

Hence another reason why I dont use Vista and never will. I'll be using XP until well after Windows 7 is out.

interestingly i've only crashed out once from the actual game... it seems to be something about changing the screens, especially, but not limited to, after flights that is pissing it off *shrug*

I can save a conf.ini for single play and make a directx for online; it won't exactly kill me..

last night I was playing my NG campaign flying Aussie P40E's, and got greedy. Went after a tardy Betty, dived in on her, flamed the right engine, and as I was falling away, the tail gunner, fired one fracking 20 mike mike and blew the hell out of my Allison. Oil on the glass, smoke and fuel and whatnot blowing aft, I had to try to set her down....I had now 5 kills

So power back to 10%, prop rpm to 10% and circle down from 10,000 ft, turned final, an AI is right at the apron, so I floated over him, landed long....and went off the other end before I could get her whoa'd up. I'll post a pic when I get home

Did you survive the crash or did your plane blow up?

I've been seeing these errors on mine and my wifes computers since we started using Vista; looks like some information has finally started flowing; Vista is trying to be helpful, but as is usual, is instead being retarded.

www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/wddm_timeout.mspx

basically from what im seeing make the tdr timeout 10 seconds instead of 2 and problems tend to evaporate... looks like the checking can be killed which is my next step; im so glad there is info out about this crap now; it's been haunting vista users since its release.

Vista is not all that bad. I've been using it exclusively for more than 2 years now. The only persistent problem I've had over that time is that for 1 or 2 games (SupCom), ventrilo can't pick up my push-to-talk key while in a game. Something to do with DirectInput.

Thread officially hi-jacked.

I agree; turn off UAC and the visual crud and it's on par with XP; not really worth and upgrade, but where I just uilt new computers, meh, go for it. Especially where I needed a 64 bit OS to handle the 8 GB of RAM.

I must admit, that I've been running through missions after putting in the registry to extend the timeout to 10 seconds and so far no problems, so I'm back on good terms with Vista if that's all it took. Why it took so long for this answer to come out I will never know; this has been a plague upon vista gaming, with a relatively simple fix...

That was the fundamental conclusion I arrived at shortly after Vista came out. I just saw no incentive to switch over to Vista irrespective of the DX 10 support.
