just wondering, after firing all 30 rounds from an mp5/40 (the .40 version), how is it reloaded? yeah i know, you put in a fresh mag, and then, when it comes to chambering the new round, does it have a bolt release of some sort or you have to cock it manually?

heh good question, I actually don't know
With pistols you need to do this (can't explain how in english, don't know the weapon terms)
I bet helmut knows all about it
and the fur seems like a professional killer too

In all weapons that I know about you need to either release the bolt catch (because the bolt/slide will automatically lock back when the magazine is empty) OR you will need to recock the weapon. Not having ever fired an H&K G3 or MP5 based weapon (their actions are the same) I do not know for sure, but I believe they all have a cocking lever, so it seesm you would need to recock the weapon in this case...

Maybe check that site that Fur mentioned earlier in the thread. I have some police and special forces buddies as well....

i found it out already. MP5/40 has a varient that has a bolt catch. So after the last round the bolt locks open. Now insert the mag and then simply press on the catch to release the bolt and chamber the round. Cocking manually is also possible. Check out the MP5/10 at HK Pro website. Groovy!

The MP-5/10 and MP-5/40 have been replaced by the UMP, if I recall correctly.

On that issue, I've seen a LOT of criticism of the UMP, but none of it from a technical perspective. So, I ask, what's wrong with it?

Honkybo is correct. The UMP uses a bolt catch/release similar to that of the M16 series. Insert mag, press bolt release, good to go.

I have handled the UMP .45 a few times (never fired it), and the biggest difference between it and the MP5 series (which I have fired) is the size. The UMP is a very large weapon, compared to the MP5A2.

How you operate the weapon after "empty mag" is dependant upon how/when the weapon picks up the next round for chambering. If the weapon mechanism picks up the round on the backward movement then you will have to re-cock the weapon, for weapon mechanisms that pick-up the round on the forward movement, you'll find that the mechanism locks in the back (cocked) position untril you load another mag and will collec the round as you release the mechanism.

I think it's old age Steel, heh.

I was going to post in the General forum that there was a Raptor sighting, but I thought it was a glitch.

Yah, except us that don't have it. But I'm probably going to remedy that situation next week. BTW, I'm available for Falcon most nights as well. IL2 too.
