Public Sale

Public Auction

As usual me and my two brothers couldn't get along with my older sister again , So we’re going to quick auction the Ohio farm next month. My mother called me and said she would pay for me to go back there and buy a few things for her. Sounds tempting , especially if I can save up and buy myself a few things while I’m there. I knew my great great uncle flew an airplane in WW2 , but I never knew he was in Skull Squadron.

Thanks for the link , I was looking at a few pictures from the auction site to see if any of the names from the pictures shown , matched up to the Burma Banshees site. Heh , something to do : ) There was this one picture the auctioneer took that could be him sitting in his plane. There’s an insignia on the nose on the plane I cant make out.... Also , if there is a German Medallion or more Memorabilia From Flying Skull Squadron , they haven’t taken a picture of it yet.

I’ve never seen the Burma Banshees planes before. They all have different skulls on the nose. I wonder why no one ever made a movie of them?

That’s a rare picture of the Death Heads Burma Banshees.

There’s also some new pictures there to look at. I emailed them about the Belt & Buckers, German Medallion to see if they would take a picture of it. ( I’d like to see it!) It looks like I wont have the time to back there for the auction in person this year , but there’s a pre-bid and live bid on their website. I plan on bidding on the flight book. . If I’m lucky,.. I’ll get me something else too.

I’m totally curious now what he did back then. I’ve only meet him a few times and we’ve never had a chance to talk much. Except for one time he convinced me to throw my water rocket into the outside fire pit when I was like 11 years old back in Ohio. .

I said, “ it don work as well anymore…! " " Dang it , whats up with that ! " .... He said , “ I would just throw that in the fire and be done with it.” ( several times) So I finally did just that and looked at him for several seconds. lol , .. he looked right back at me , and then finally got up and walked in his house without saying another word. . I think he had enough beer to drink that day. : )

I always told him to get a dog to keep him accompanied when he wasn’t taking care of the cows out back. ( he never answered me) and I wanted to ask him about his past flying experience , but I didn’t want to seem like a suck up. I guess we kept it simple because we were just mainly acquaintances. I didn’t know him personally , we were just related.

I gave his last name to my daughters middle name because they never had any kids of their own , so I thought that would be appropriate. Also I use to send him a Birthday and Christmas card every year up untill about 3 years ago when he quit replying. (I just found out this year that that was about the time he was put into an retirement home. ) His other house rental friends were taking care of him and his property for the last 3 years which came as a shocker to all of us.

Anyway..

At first ( buffalo) I thought you were saying it would be all blood and guts with no romance in making the Death Heads Burma Banshees movie.. And that , that would be the reason they haven’t made a movie of it yet ? I would like to think that there is some story there to write about. Maybe the History channel with make a Battle 360 of them some day.

Remember the movie ( They Were Expendable 1945 ? with John Wayne) Or the Movie ( None But The Brave 1965, with Frank Sinatra? ) Nothing that pretty there , but I thought they were both good WWII movies.

Yeah , I guess I didn’t quite understand the abbreviations of C-T-I or ETO. I figured it was something like romance vs. combat action. I was off on that one… Although I looked it up just now and came up with this…

C-B-I

I’m not sure what ETO is.

Man , … I did a search on the net for the Flying Skulls insignia to see how many they’ve had over the years. I can’t seem to find a good link yet

Hey Buffalo ..? When are you going to make your own Cross Bone web page? I head you talking about putting some flare on your war planes several months ago in the IL2 PC game forum. . Anything done yet? Where’s the link!? I don’t check out the IL2 forum much , but if you’ve made any Skull Squadron insignias on your planes , ..then I’d like the link man. C-ya around..
