When my contract was up last I got a 3GS for $20 with $10 activation. Hope to do similar when contract expires again and get a 4 or 4S... depending when exactly it ends and if the 5's are out...

Try getting an iPhone 4 with no contract and see how much the phone costs. This is an opportunity to get the phone outright, no contract. Ie, you can cancel service at any time. An iphone4 32g with no contract will run you about $600 -$700.

That is true, but I'll never not have a cell phone again (probably...) so signing a contract is a moot point. Some people are nuts about unlocked phones they can take anywhere though... so I guess in that case it's worthwhile...
