Space Sim...

Post by Hammer »

All this space sim talk got me to looking last night (since I got home from work and Nidia was at my house...). Here is a new one from ground up in the Wing Commander genre. I dl'ed it and will try it as soon as i get a chance.

I would still like to occasionally try Xwing Alliance and/or Freespace2. I probably prefer Freespace2, but have both.

Anyone game? We (Madrus, myself, SB) did try this (Xwing Alliance) a while back, it was fun, but we never did try again.

Panzer and I played X Wing vs TIE F and XWA a LOT back in the day.
The problem was XvT had crappy performance (on the systems and net connects of the day) while XWA had limited missions (shoot-em-up skirmishes with no structure).
This limited replayability on both. I still have both, though!

HA! GOTCHA!!! Of course they do - I know we have all seen the Tie fighters and X-wings in atmosphere... :D ;)

But yes, maybe we should make a Miscellaneous Lack-of-Air Combat forum??? :)

XWA has a lot of mods out there to make the ships and objects look a lot better... There are also campaigns and missions to add on. They are fairly easy to manage as an add on manager program exists as well...

Freespace 2 has a lot of the same - more ships to add, redone graphics, a lot of new campaigns, and a few total conversions...either in progress or released. It is also open sourced, and they are creating a new engine for it as well... You can also download it for free, kinda on the hush, hush though. Most folks feel that is O.K. since the source, or the bulk of it, was released.
