I'd say it's a big deal due to the fact that she is 47 years old and has never been recognized up until now. Besides, how many other "ugly" women do you know that can sing well?

she will not be a big superstar singer but I could see her in opera or singing like she did tonight. Good talent should be used

Actually I know quite a few including some well known rock stars! And the "never judge a book by its cover" is exactly the point I was trying to make. The media has made a big deal about this because it seems that many people are surprised someone who is not attractive can sing so well. How is that a logical connection in the first place?
