For those of us that have Battlefield 2...

Looks like an "official" coop MP mode is coming in the 1.3 patch. Hmm, I might have to get this installed...

If it truly makes things right and they release a "gold" version of the game I might go for it. I still despise the unlock thing.

this game is actually fun, and real coop would be nice. the ai behaves o.k. actually (run and gun style - which is the type of game it is).

what is the unlock thing?

i would still rather play americas army, if they ever get coop into that.

Hmmmm, one thing I noticed....

Co-op: Co-op Mode allows you to play Single Player levels on the Internet and LAN with both AI controlled bots and human players. Several new options have been created that will allow the server creator to modify how the bots behave in game.

BF2 has Single player levels? Say wha...?

the sentence itself is confusing...so it could be some half-baked crap they are going to release. we will have to see.

The longer you play and rack up points on ranked servers you can unlock extra weapons in the game ie all the ones in the game aren't available from day 1.

ah - got it. i think the realism patches already work around that, no?

too bad they can not fix vehicle damage.

oh, and from what i recall the single player maps are smaller...

I think there are mods to fix that. I know "out of the box" the SP maps were the 16-player versions, which means pretty much no flying at all.
The previous BF games you could play offline to learn all the weapons, vehicles, classes, maps, etc. BF2 doesn't give you that. You HAVE to play MP to do everything--bad idea.

BF2142 is supposed to go "back" to the BF42 way, but we'll see.
I was majorly irritated that BF2 offered FEWER features than BF42 w/DC mod without anything really new!
GRAW does the same thing, except it does offer a lot of new stuff for all the old that is taken away.

Hades,
that is why releasing coop in patch would be good - then we can play with just our group.

If and when true COOP really is implemented with BF2, I will buy the game.

Like Jedi said, if they release a gold version, I may be tempted.
